Cundy Street Quarter
Supporting the community during Covid-19
We hope that everyone is keeping well and safe. Although we are in uncertain times, our focus is to ensure a successful long-term future for the neighbourhood. We are continually monitoring official advice regarding COVID-19 and we’re doing all we can to give practical support to the community and local businesses.
The Westminster Foundation is disbursing £2.5m to support vulnerable families and young people in London and elsewhere. Grosvenor has made a donation of £250,000 to the London Community Foundation and both Grosvenor and the Westminster Foundation have waived the next quarter’s rent for 26 charities that rent office space from us. The vast majority of these are based in Belgravia.
Our staff have also been helping out wherever they can, delivering supplies to the vulnerable and elderly or volunteering to support Age UK’s telephone befriending scheme. We have also been helping Fr Alan at St Paul’s to host daily virtual tea parties for the community with support from Age UK.
Many businesses around Cundy Street are facing huge challenges. So, we are speaking to all our retailers in the area, helping them deal with cashflow concerns and trying to ensure that staff can get paid. We’re helping the businesses that are open advertise their services to local residents and working with the NHS and others to make parking spaces available for key workers.
Whilst most business have had to close for the time being, we’re incredibly grateful to some which have stayed open to support our community – head here and scroll down to ‘Resources’ for an up to date list. If you do need to go outside for food, health reasons or essential work please remember to follow national guidelines and keep distance of 2 metres (6 feet) from other people.
At this time, we have also made the decision to postpone or cancel some events such as Belgravia in Bloom and London Craft Week, which were scheduled to take place over the next few months. We hope to reschedule these at a later date when they can be enjoyed to the full.
If you are well enough to do so, you can register for volunteering opportunities to help vulnerable people in the area through Westminster City Council at https://do-it.westminster.gov.uk/
We want to make sure that we can stay in contact with you in the best possible way so please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to register your preferences if you have not already. If you would prefer to be notified by telephone then you can call us on 020 7312 7007. You can also follow us on Instagram where we will be sharing more updates. @Belgravia_LDN.
